Examine a word

A parent cannot decipher words for a child. Only the child can decipher written language. You can help! You can help LOTS of ways. One way would be to gain an interest in the words you use yourself, and stop once in a while to examine one, its history, why it means what it means.

  1. As I LOVE etymology, I get an etymology dictionary when my children were young. It was a treat to me to look into it to know why we say this word or another one, where (and when) do this word come from. My sons were always asking about words, and they continue to do it, trying to use the good word, to express the good thing. Really interesting subject. Now that they are older, they speak both French and English, (and lare learning about some Spanish, Greek, Japanese, Egyptian words) and make links between words, and cultures.
Thanks for this post, Sandra !
